All He Wants For Christmas Is 12

I sent an e-mail to my guys,
husband and son,
offering, for their consideration,
a creative new holiday idea.
Since none of us needs a thing,
I wrote,
and we’re all disenchanted
with obligatory shopping,
what about giving each other
a WORD
this year?
A word that would have special
meaning to the recipient?
One said,
“Too much pressure, Mom.”
The other said,
“I’d rather give each other
a number.”

About Ann

I am interested in the strange beauty of brokenness, in transforming possibility in difficult times, in how we heal even when we can’t get better, in the alchemy of surrender, in the interplay of light and shadow, in the bounty of everyday wonders, in the gift of laughter…and writing about it, all and everything.
