Big-Footed God

God waggles those big feet,
shakes that broad bottom,
peach juice sticky on that chin,
hair wild as brambles,
and crazy as all get out, gets in…
plunging into my body feet-first,
holding onto that nose,
cannonballing into flesh
with an exultant shout…
and cries me,
great sobbing tears for life,
laughs me,
shaking my belly loose,
making me slap my thighs,
so loony with joy I
nearly burst into God-bits
as I lie here beside my husband,
who is reading me some
poet’s wild-haired story
and loving the images
so completely
while I’m loving him…
and God comes down–
big, wild-haired, dancing,
joyous, crazy, exultant God–
and jumps right in.

About Ann

I am interested in the strange beauty of brokenness, in transforming possibility in difficult times, in how we heal even when we can’t get better, in the alchemy of surrender, in the interplay of light and shadow, in the bounty of everyday wonders, in the gift of laughter…and writing about it, all and everything.
