The Cat Rules

When we first met our cat, we thought
he was so overly gorgeous he might be
a cover model for feline romance novels
and maybe we should call him Fabio.
But he’s Peeps, and it turns out he’s an
unusually communicative and gifted cat.

“Peeps,” we told him early on,
“You have just two simple rules to
learn if you’re going to live with us:
1. Do not jump up on the table.
2. Do not jump up on the buffet.
Peeps figured this out almost
immediately, plus how to tell us
everything he needs to say.

Peeps jumps up on the table to say,
He jumps on the table to say,
“Let’s play!”
He jumps on the table to say,
“Need treats!”
He jumps on the table to say,
“Give kitty-love!”

The only time he jumps up
on the buffet is to say,
“Hey, didn’t you see me?
I was sitting on the gol-darn table!”

About Ann

I am interested in the strange beauty of brokenness, in transforming possibility in difficult times, in how we heal even when we can’t get better, in the alchemy of surrender, in the interplay of light and shadow, in the bounty of everyday wonders, in the gift of laughter…and writing about it, all and everything.
