Zero-Defects Kitchen Man

Welcome to the mind of my husband,
engineer/rocket scientist/bookkeeper.
While he doesn’t like to cook–
except for microwaving
his own morning oatmeal and
preparing Purina Pro Plan
Turkey with Rice entree for the cat–
he does like to clean up both
his own morning dishes and
any stray things left in the sink,
bowls, spoons and utensils,
shiny-clean, laid out
to dry on the mat.
It makes me grin
every time I take this in,
a kind of snapshot of his mind.
Organized, precise, measured,
disciplined, thorough, mindful.
The perfect-fit partner for a woman
who finds details head-bonking tedious,
who can’t do the same thing the same,
who needs GPS to find the bathroom
and loses her car in the parking garage.

About Ann

I am interested in the strange beauty of brokenness, in transforming possibility in difficult times, in how we heal even when we can’t get better, in the alchemy of surrender, in the interplay of light and shadow, in the bounty of everyday wonders, in the gift of laughter…and writing about it, all and everything.
